The deadline for The Sketchbook Project is fast approaching. I have to have it postmarked and off to New York by January 31st. It's coming together really well. I have been sitting at my desk for a few weeks now doodling this owl over and over. He first came out one evening while I was doing some of that never ending paper work. I just can't stop! They keep coming and coming. So fun to draw and even more fun to paint! Such colors! A girl at the show this past weekend stopped by my booth and said, "We took a class together back in 2008 and you were doodling cupcakes then too!" I of course, was sitting there doodling cupcakes. Tonight as I walked down the hallway of the hospital, I was reminded why some of us make art. I was sad to leave my mom. I knew she was in good hands, resting and recovering well, but I still wanted to stay.As I started down the way a photograph caught my eye and then another. I won't want to get on the scale after I eat all of this White Chocolate Cherry Fudge. I took these to a Christmas cookie party a few years ago. They were so pretty I had to take pictures. I thought I would see how they turned out as a watercolor.

A few weeks ago, my youngest started preschool. I had an idea for an image called The Preschool Blues. It didn't really go in the direction I wanted it to. I would say this turned out to be an experiment in color, paper and time. I tried a few new colors, (some luminescents that you can't see sparkle on the scan,) and I tried hot press again. I have to say I just do not like painting on hot

I was surprised when my topic was chosen for Illustration Friday this week. I had to do a double take when I was reading my email. How fun!! This was the image I had in mind when I thought of juggle. I had drawn this image for a poster contest but it never made it past the sketch stage. I really enjoyed painting this one. It was so different for me to leave so much white space.

This is a piece I call Frog Bride. It's one of my oldies but goodies. It was inspired by my own wedding. My friends hung tons of jars with candles from a giant old tree. As it got darker and darker the lights looked incredible!

This piece always reminds me of a poem I wrote in the desert of Tucson, AZ. It was my first time visiting there and was quite an experience. I sat under a tree in the sand for over an hour with a humming bird coming to visit me every few minutes. So different from Seattle.

When I started to doodle for this topic, I kept coming back to this cake. Discovering cake is a good thing. I think eventually the title for this one will be Dreaming of Cake. I can't fit the whole thing on my scanner, but most of it is there. I think I need a piece of cake now.

Gravity didn't stand a chance against this hairdo. This is definitely a work in progress. I am still playing with my new paint. I started another piece but it was too wet to work on, so I did this little ditty on the side. So many colors, so little time!
